Shane Mosley vs. Victor Conte

On January 24th, Shane Mosley faces WBA welterweight champion Antonio Margarito at STAPLES Center in Los Angeles, California. For Mosley, it's another in a long line of arduous battles he has taken on throughout his Hall-of-Fame career. But right now, it's not the only fight he faces going into the future. In recent months, his legal team has done some highly publicized legal sparring with Victor Conte, the founder and owner of BALCO, as they have attempted to clear Mosley’s name in connection...

Looking into the Crystal Ball – January

boxing
AThe first two installments of the Crystal Ball didn’t produce the results I wanted – I ended up going 2-2 in both November and December. Being one who likes to put a positive spin I see this as another reason why boxing is my favorite sport. One never knows what will happen when two highly-trained athletes raise their gloved fists and if every fight turned out as predicted what fun would that be?

So, perhaps stubbornly, I will push on with another slate of prognostications that will hopefully bear better fruit...

2008 in the rear view mirror, Powell reloads for 2009

boxing
As he entered 2008, Sechew Powell was closing in fast on every boxer’s ultimate dream – a world title shot. Fresh off a fourth round TKO of Terrance Cauthen in an IBF junior middleweight title eliminator, the “Iron Horse” had arrived. All he had to do was wait it out and get his championship bout.

Instead, Powell kept fighting, looking to stay sharp until his call came. First he took out 12-0-1 Kevin Finley in the first round in February, and then he signed up for a...

The 2009 Preview – Part II

boxing
As I mentioned last week, Maxboxing is the most progressive boxing site in cyberspace, which means instead of looking back upon a great 2008, we want to take the time to let our readers know what lies ahead in 2009, which I believe will be another stellar year for boxing.

In Part One, the weight classes covered went from strawweight up to jr. featherweight, and I gave my opinions on champions that will stay, champions that will go, and prospects to keep an eye on. Unfortunately, I also listed fighters who should have retired well before last year...
